“I think she’s gonna kill Jimmy and Ginger,” Richie said. “She’s been talking like that.”
His lip was standing out, though he didn’t want me to see and kept turning his head away and wiping at his nose with the sleeve of his jean jacket. I could tell that he believed what he was saying, but there was just no way mom would do something like that. No way.
“Aunt Millie said she’d take them,” I said as proof that I was right. “So, they’ll just go there until we can afford to feed them again. Then we”ll get them back.”
I looked into the woods across the road as the breeze made the skinny oak trees bend and rustle. A couple gray squirrels were chasing each other around, and a flock of blue jays was weirdly quiet and staring.applied in a variety of situations.
